The first installation in The Wilcox Space, curated by Wilcox’s longtime friend and gallerist, Barry Whistler, includes a some of Wilcox’s more recent work. Some works on paper date from the later 1980’s when Wilcox was living in New York and experiencing the devastation of the AIDS epidemic in the art community. The canvases selected for this installation feature some of his monochromatic works as well as works that illustrate Wilcox’s technique of etchings shapes on carefully painted and sanded canvases. Included in this exhibition are the two canvases Wilcox was working on at the time of his death in 2012.
